THE LANCASHIRE ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL
GOVERNING BODIES

MINI CONFERENCE SPRING TERM 2010
From September 1st 2009 another revised OFSTED FRAMEWORK is in place

An LASGB Mini Conference will be held in the Spring Term to find out more about how the latest OFSTED inspections are working in Lancashire schools. Speakers will include an Ofsted Inspector, Headteacher and governor from schools which have been inspected under the new regime.

THURSDAY MARCH 4th 2010 at PRESTON NORTH END FOOTBALL CLUB
6pm - 8pm

What’s changed?   The following are quotes from the OFSTED website -

The quality of provision & leadership & management
*  Higher expectations: a new judgement about the leadership and management of teaching and learning
*  A greater emphasis on the impact of teaching, the curriculum and care/guidance on outcomes for different groups of pupils
*  The key leadership & management judgement looks at leaders’ and managers’ success at all levels in embedding ambition and driving improvements
More explicit expectations for governors and an enhanced judgement about governance and value for money

From September 2009, Ofsted is varying the frequency of schools’ inspections depending upon the results of their previous inspections and an annual assessment of their subsequent performance. The latter involves an analysis of the school’s public performance data. It also includes the views of parents, pupils and others and from 2010, the views of parents will influence the choice of which schools are to be inspected. Where the data are not available or are inconclusive, the school’s previous inspection report and its most recently submitted self-evaluation form (SEF) are analysed.

*  Higher expectations: a focus on different groups of pupils as well as individuals and a greater emphasis on attainment.
*  More time spent in classrooms observing learning
*  The judgement about pupils’ learning and progress has high status. Schools will still receive credit for outstanding work to improve learning and progress – and attainment - in challenging circumstances
*  As now, pupils’ achievement and progress will limit the overall effectiveness grade. Unless pupils achieve well, the school will not be judged better than satisfactory overall
